At the invitation of the Mallakam Bar Association, an awareness seminar on Digital Law was held recently at the Valampuri Hotel in Jaffna by the Information and Communication Technology Bar Association of Sri Lanka to educate lawyers, police officers, public administration officers and law students in the Northern Province.
The Honorable Chairman of the AHC Group, Ambassador of Peace, Dr. Nalaka Silva, who was the main sponsor of this conference, emphasized that he intends to continue to sponsor such socially significant activities in the future as well.
The guest of honor was MP Rajeevan, who explained the new laws required by Parliament to digitize the state machinery. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Thambi Muthan, President of the Mallakam Bar Association, while Mr. Parthivan, Secretary of the said association and Jaffna Regional Vice President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, explained the need for lawyers to learn digital law.
The Honorable Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Sunil Abhayaratne, , explained the purpose of the conference and the forum and delivered a lecture on the law relating to electronic evidence. Mr. Lincoln Prabhakaran, Advocate of the Supreme Court of India, delivered a lecture on the role of lawyers in cyberspace.
Senior DIG Attorney-at-Law Ajith Rohana discussed the role of the police in enforcing the law, while Jaffna Assistant Superintendent of Police Dilruk discussed the practical issues that arise in presenting electronic evidence.
The Deputy Commissioner for Agricultural Development, Jaffna, Mrs. P. Thevanayakee, explained the need for digitalization of agriculture. The Honorable Chairman of the AHC Group, Ambassador of Peace, Dr. Nalaka Silva, gave a special appreciation to Mrs. P. Thevanayakee for her service to agriculture in the Jaffna area.
